Hearth Dedication

The dedication of sacred space within the religious life of a recognized Hús.

The Hearth

Within Hákonarætt, a Hearth is a sacred place intentionally set apart and dedicated by a recognized Hús for the religious life of the household.

A Hearth may be a fireplace, altar or shrine, room or portion of a room, outdoor sacred space, or another suitable place. No particular physical form, size, or property ownership is required.

The Hearth may serve as a place for religious observance, offerings, remembrance, sacred hospitality, shared meals, study, and the continuing religious life of the Hús.

Dedication of a Hearth

A recognized Hús may establish a Hearth by dedicating a suitable sacred place.

The dedication is ordinarily undertaken by the Húsbóndi, Húsfreyja, or a responsible adult of the household. A recognized Gothi may assist with or preside at the dedication when invited, but Gothi participation is not required.

The Hearth should be maintained with appropriate care and respect consistent with its dedication.

Household & Sacred Hospitality

A Hearth is rooted in the religious life of its Hús but may welcome family, friends, neighbors, Members of Hákonarætt, and other invited guests for appropriate religious observances, fellowship, study, meals, and sacred hospitality.

Regular gathering at a Hearth does not by itself create a Kindred. A Hearth remains centered in the religious life and hospitality of its Hús unless a stable local religious community develops and separately seeks a charter as a Kindred.

Gothi Service at the Hearth

A dedicated Hearth does not require a Gothi. The Húsbóndi, Húsfreyja, or responsible Member of the Hús may maintain the Hearth and conduct the ordinary religious life of the household.

A Hús may invite a Gothi formally recognized and authorized by Hákonarætt Fellowship to serve its Hearth. When serving in connection with that Hearth, the Gothi may be recognized by the Fellowship as its Hearth Gothi.

The Gothi serves the Hearth; the Hearth does not belong to the Gothi.

Acknowledgment of Dedication

After a recognized Hús dedicates its Hearth, the dedication may be submitted to Hákonarætt Fellowship for acknowledgment and recording. Hákonarætt maintains a record of dedicated Hearths and may issue a Certificate of Hearth Dedication acknowledging the dedication.

Acknowledgment by the Fellowship does not create the Hearth. The sacred space is dedicated by the Hús and remains within the stewardship of the household.

Recognize the Hús. Dedicate the Hearth. Charter the Kindred.

Record a Hearth Dedication

Members associated with a recognized Hús may submit the dedication of their Hearth to Hákonarætt Fellowship for acknowledgment and recording. Household not yet recognized? Request Hús recognition first.
