Kindreds of Hákonarætt
Hákonarætt is built from the hearth outward. Our kindreds are local religious communities where the Old Norse tradition is lived through fellowship, study, holy tides, ritual observance, hospitality, and service.
Each kindred develops a community life rooted in its own place and people while remaining connected to the wider Fellowship through shared tradition, mutual responsibility, and common purpose.

FOUNDING KINDRED
Hákonar Highland Rim Kindred
Middle Tennessee
Hákonar Highland Rim Kindred is the founding kindred of Hákonarætt, serving Middle Tennessee as a local Old Norse religious community. The kindred gathers for fellowship, study, blót, sumbel, seasonal holy tides, service, and the shared life of the tradition.

Alabama
Chartered Kindred of Hákonarætt
Þórshǫll Kindred is a Chartered Kindred of Hákonarætt serving Alabama as a local Old Norse religious community, rooted in its own community while sharing in the tradition, fellowship, and common life of Hákonarætt.
One Household • Local Hearths
Hákonarætt is united by shared tradition without requiring every kindred to look exactly alike.
Each kindred is rooted in its own community. Local leadership guides its gatherings, relationships, service, and community life while maintaining its place within the wider Fellowship.
This allows each hearth to develop naturally while remaining connected to something larger: a household of kindreds committed to preserving the tradition, supporting one another, developing capable leaders, and building communities intended to endure.
Chartered Kindreds
A Chartered Kindred is a local religious community formally recognized as part of Hákonarætt Fellowship. Chartering represents both belonging and responsibility: a commitment to the shared tradition and life of the Fellowship while maintaining local identity and responsible local leadership.
SHARED TRADITION
Chartered Kindreds participate in the common religious tradition and principles of Hákonarætt while living that tradition within their own communities.
LOCAL LEADERSHIP
Each kindred develops responsible local leadership capable of guiding its community, maintaining stability, and serving its members.
MUTUAL SUPPORT
Kindreds share knowledge, resources, experience, and fellowship rather than building in isolation.
FORMATION & CONTINUITY
Hákonarætt supports the formation of leaders and communities so that the tradition can be responsibly carried forward from one generation to the next.
The Fellowship and the Kindred
Hákonarætt exists to strengthen local kindreds, not replace them.
The Fellowship provides a shared religious identity, broader fellowship, educational and formation resources, institutional continuity, and a framework through which kindreds can support one another.
The local kindred remains the heart of community life. It is where relationships are formed, holy tides are observed, hospitality is practiced, knowledge is shared, and the tradition takes root in a particular place.
One household does not mean one hearth. It means many hearths that know they belong to one another.
Starting a Kindred
Strong kindreds are built deliberately. They begin with people willing to gather consistently, learn together, practice hospitality, accept responsibility, and build something intended to last.
Hákonarætt welcomes conversations with individuals and developing communities who are drawn to our tradition and interested in establishing a local kindred.
The process begins with relationship and discernment rather than paperwork. We want prospective kindreds to become familiar with Hákonarætt, understand the Fellowship's principles and expectations, and determine whether joining the household is a good fit for both the local community and the wider Fellowship.
The Path to Charter
1. CONNECT
Introduce yourself or your developing community and begin a conversation with Hákonarætt.
2. BUILD
Develop a stable local community through regular gatherings, study, observance, hospitality, and responsible leadership.
3. FORM
Become familiar with the tradition, principles, expectations, and common life of Hákonarætt while developing leaders capable of serving the local kindred.
4. CHARTER
When the community and Fellowship are prepared, a kindred may be formally recognized as a Chartered Kindred of Hákonarætt.
